One of the recommendations associated with monitoring urinary pH as part of the treatment for urological diseases related to the urine's acid-base balance is for the person to be able to self-monitor pH measurement.
Telemedicine has advanced considerably in recent years. A very clear example is the Lit-Control Method. This method allows for self-monitoring using a small device that measures urine pH values, along with food supplements that help increase or decrease urinary pH, depending on individual needs.
This method is especially intended for people prone to developing kidney stones, those with urinary catheters, those affected by recurrent cystitis and urinary tract infections, with painful bladder syndrome or overactive bladder, among other urinary system pathologies related to the acid-base balance of urine.
The fact that these individuals take responsibility for their own monitoring provides several advantages:
- Greater autonomy and convenience: urine pH can be measured at home without having to travel to a medical center.
- More frequent checks: it is possible to verify at all times that the urinary pH value remains within the recommended therapeutic range and that prevention is being carried out correctly.
- Immediate results: the equipment itself calculates the value instantly, and food supplements help correct the effects of diet and metabolism.
This type of self-monitoring method is also used in other diseases such as diabetes, where small meters are used to calculate blood glucose levels and prevent episodes of hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia (excess or lack of glucose, respectively) or to assess immediate insulin injection; and also in oral anticoagulant treatment, where coagulometers are used to measure blood clotting time, ensure the correct drug dosage for each person, and thus prevent the risk of thrombosis or hemorrhage.
For these reasons, the advantages of self-monitoring translate into an improvement in the quality of life of the affected person, as it provides greater freedom, responsibility, and adherence to treatment.
